Ray Prim – A Presentation

The joy of a new discovery energizes me like nothing else.  Ray Prim is that discovery. Yes, he has been around some time but my experience in the local Austin music scene is only three years old. So, yes, Ray Prim is new to me. He has been on my radar for some time to photograph and I finally got the opportunity, last November when he played acoustic with Tom Meny at the Ady Hernandez benefit. Tom and his band opened up for Ray at Stateside at the Paramount. Tom, is another discovery for me.

It was only last June, June 2, 2023, to be exact, at The Saxon Pub that I finally got to hear Ray and his full band. Amazing doesn’t even begin to qualify the experience. Last night, September 15, 2023, I got to see and hear Ray Prim and his full band again. He raised the bar on live music. This man is more than an experience, he is a presentation. He has a voice that hypnotizes you and a since of humor that draws you closer to him. Through his music he shares his life with you and as a result, you become a part. He wants you to be there with him. That is how I felt.

I have said it before and I cannot say it enough, “The talent in this city, Austin, Texas, is incredible.”  On any given night, high quality talent is available to be heard. This night, I heard and captured an incredible, talented, and phenomenal credit to the world of “Live Music.”  Ray, I can only say, “Thank You” for your gift to us.
