The Multi-Tasking Life of Omar Vallejo
I first saw Omar Vallejo, October 30, 2020 playing bass during the Eddie Van Halen tribute. He then got to mix it up for a few songs with Robert Wagner’s Black Crowes Experience afterwards.
I saw him next for Vallejo’s record release, December 18, 2020, at Rockefeller’s Houston.
The next time I caught him was May 22, 2021, where he played in two bands, Saucer then Vallejo, both full sessions. This young man is a machine.
Summer 2022, I visited Omar at his 512 Studio on South Lamar. I got a tour and watch him do his magic. It is time for Omar to step in.
1). Who is Omar Vallejo? Father, brother, fisherman, golfer, car enthusiast, and lover of life and music.
2). Tell me about your projects.
As for my current projects or things that keep me busy on a daily basis…Playing bass and stunt background vocals in a few bands, (Vallejo and Saucer) Recording and producing Austin’s many talented musicians at 512 Studios, also Producing a musical tv show for The CW Austin (512 Studios Live), I have a Vintage Car Company (South Austin Cars) and I’m a partner at a golf course in Alabama. (Heritage Golf Course)
3). Give me your interpretation of the Austin Music Scene of the past, present and your hope for the future.
Moving here in the early 90’s, Austin was much different than the Austin we know now. You used to be able to park your car on 6th Street. Every club had blues, rock, R&B and metal pouring out into the streets. Radio stations, magazines and clubs worked harmoniously together with the bands to promote shows and local businesses. It’s changed a lot here in the last few decades.
4). A.I. and music, your thoughts.
AI generated music could be helpful to artists in the creative process by helping put together songs. However, it lacks depth of emotion and personal experiences that human musicians and producers bring to their work. This can lead to a decline in the uniqueness and diversity of musical expression. So as, a musician, I don’t think it’s a good thing.
5). What is the question you are never asked?
I have never been asked to play a lead guitar solo!
