The Need for Excellence – The Need for LC Rocks
“Excellence is not a skill, it’s an attitude. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit. The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential…these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence. – Ralph Marston
“LC Rocks is the real deal. They don’t have a schtick because they don’t need one. They’re the best at what they do.” – Tahli Messman, fan since 2009
I take breaks from bands and venues so that I can come back to them with fresher eyes. It helps me to discover characteristics of the band that can so easily be overlooked when you think you “know” them. I last photographed LC Rocks in November 2022. Let me tell you, this band has raised the bar on the standards of “Great Rock n Roll.” The lasers I criticized last year was now a feature I wanted to capture. Their music has been enhanced with Paul Lidel and Adrian Peritore singing more songs. Matt Bray, lead singer, continues to keep bringing it to us. Their drummer, Rob Schumacher has not lost a beat either. The drums still get beat with the gentleness of a giant banging pots and pans. His timing has and still is always there.
This night, I saw LC Rocks as if for the first time. They were the remedy to a odd week of work. Their passion for their music cleared the cobwebs in my mind. I was reminded of the passion I had when I first photographed them in October 2020. I literally felt like I was beginning again. Renewed and energetic I moved around the room as I used to finding key places to capture that moment. When you are about to sing “Girls, Girls, Girls”, having a stage full of girls adds to the moment.
So jazzed that a chapter of my book has been inspired. If you have not seen this amazing band then you have not been treated to this level of excellence. Yes, Tahli, LC Rocks is the real deal and as Adrian Peritore told me last ight, “This band makes the songs their own.”
