Power: Austin Live Music

Sylvan Swanson

We were singing; we were moving; we were experiencing “Live Music” in Austin as I have rarely experienced. Before last night, the music of Thin Lizzy was not on my radar. My youth had only heard one song, over and over again. Today, this morning, I am listening to Thin Lizzy with my eyes open. Thunder Lighting did their tribute well.

Then followed the phenomenal, powerful, amazing, and stellar performance of Mob Rules. The incredible voice of Sylvan Swanson was the most unbelievable display of pure talent I have ever heard. Ronnie James Dio is not dead. Sylvan Swanson is the reincarnation. But Sylvan was not alone, Seth Orell on the drums, Eddie Mendoza on bass, Rick Cartwright, and Danny Wright on guitar completed the Dio tribute with a sound that had everybody moving.

But this photographer was already on a musical high, having just listened to Adam Johnson and his band. The soulful blues was played with passion. The beat and sound kept this photographer’s attention focused. The blues were alive and well last night.

Last night was sequential to Wednesday’s performance of Firecracker Smile at Antone’s. The experience of this Stone Temple Pilots tribute band had the audience rockin’. They amazed. They performed. They delivered.

Repeatedly I say, you cannot fully experience music unless you attend Live Music Performances. The energy of these nights was exhilerating. Why? I ask again Why? would you want to stay home and watch T.V. When you look back on your life will you share with your loved ones the time you watched a T.V. show or will you share an incredible night as last night. The decision is yours. All worldly possessions sooner or later become valueless. Our memories, and our experiences stay with us to the end.

This was a wonderful write-up and tribute to these great bands. Mob Rules was the first tribute band I had ever experienced when moving to Austin, and I was floored, particularly by Sylvan’s voice. Wow!
