Capturing the Experience

Capturing the Experience – What does it mean?

“Capturing the Experience” is the mantra of Seven Pillars Photography, LLC., that defines the goal of every photograph taken, to preserve a memorable moment of the live music world. Events can only be an experience if there is a strong want from the audience to have said event repeated, knowing it can never be. However, they will return because they know a new experience is to be had. My photography preserve these seconds, and if I have done my job then you should be able to look at the photograph and feel the night.

“Capturing the Experience” is a standard that has been set high. These 1/160 of a second are more than photographs to me. They are works of art created from the most difficult environment. So I have to be selective in what I present and where I go. If the lighting is sub-standard then I have to weigh the usage of my time not only being at the event but the time required in editing. This is why a favor some venues more than others. The simple fact is I will only display that which honors the musician. I want the best opportunity to do so.

“Capturing the Experience” means I work hard. I take a lot of photographs because a small movement of the hands, body, eyes, or mouth can alter a photograph from good to great. One cannot say, oh there is a good shot and expect to capture it, not in music photography. You have to be shooting before the moment happens. This is why I view most of a concert through my camera lens. I want that split-second.

Lastly, “Capturing the Experience” is my gift to you. Musicians are critical to any society. They give us the means to escape the trials of any day. They have been good medicine for me so I can offer nothing less than my best.
