A Band Performing On The Stage

The Music of Austin

With hundreds of venues offering the opportunity to experience live music of any genre desired, there should be no complaint about lack of choice. My dilemma is two fold, whom do I photograph and whom do I listen to. Yes, I have a camera, but I still listen and enjoy the music being played. It is the listening that reminds me of my greatest nemesis, my limited vocabulary. I am constantly struggling to find different words to describe these amazing people and the music they play, so I often fall back on the “go-to” words, e.g. ‘incredible’; ‘amazing’; and/or ‘phenomenal.’

To truly appreciate the music of the Greater Austin area one must go to a venue. One can hear music via many methods but you can only experience live music by attending. Only by being present are the world’s problems forgotten and one’s soul is soothed. You leave a good experience in a better mood. You leave a great experience transformed with a sense of direction and the desire to make this world a better place. Music comforts, it enlightens, and, more importantly, it heals. I have personally experienced such healing.

Each of us are given 24 hours a day. How we allot this gift is the challenge before us. Though much is consumed with obligations, we are given time that we can decide how to use. These decisions help determine the quality of our life. If live music is not part of your routine then I encourage you to make an effort. You will not regret. You serve others. Let these amazing people we call musicians serve you.
