The Original Mark Chandler is Back.

I first encountered Mark Chandler January 15, 2021 at Parmer Lane Tavern. It was a quick pop in, one of several that night, on my multi-venue night. I heard and photographed him several times in 2021 then picked up again in January 12, 2023. I caught up again last night. Why the gap of 2022? Mark was busy. Mark was writing and last night I heard an hour and half of new and old originals. ALL ORIGINALS. This night is a gemstone in my collection and will be prominently displayed in my mental music gallery. If I had to give a title to the night of Friday, October 20, 2023 it would be “The Night Original Music Was Heard,” for I had just came from watching Ruby Dice singing originals.

For all my postings, the chapter in my third book, A.I. was not a concern this night. I still have fears but Mark’s performance last night reminded me that original music was safe. I mentally confirmed by reviewing previous performances of Austin musicians. But Mark was not alone last night, Ken Kokel on the drums, Adrian Peritore on the bass, Leighton LaBorde on guitar, and David Beeson on guitar. These masters honored original music.

There are treasures in this amazing city, this city we call, “The Live Music Capital of the World.” The only way you can increase the value of your mind is to go see and hear local live music.
